Land Rover-Range Rover Vogue

Overview

The original luxury SUV has been given a mid-life makeover (this current generation launched in 2012) to keep up with newer rivals, most notably the Bentley Bentayga.

The exterior looks haven’t been changed but inside the cabin has been given a technology upgrade with the introduction of the ‘InControl Touch Pro Duo’ system already found in the Velar. It consists of a pair of 10-inch touchscreens that control most the machine’s functions including entertainment, air conditioning and All-Terrain Response.

Drive

The combination of soft leather seats and a cosseting ride makes it feel like you are driving a comfy sofa down the road.

It may be a luxurious SUV but it still wears a Land Rover badge so it has the off-road chops to match. As a result, potholes and speed bumps are dispatched with ease – the Vogue just effortlessly glides over the top of larger bumps.

However, smaller imperfections in the road can be felt at times simply because the 22-inch alloys have relatively low profile tyres so the bumps transfer to the cabin.

And while you wouldn’t take your glossy 22-inch alloys bush-bashing, with the right wheel and tyre package the Vogue TDV6 is an accomplished off-road machine. Land Rover’s Terrain Response 2 system allows you to simply dial up the mode to suit the ground underneath and the clever systems within the car allow you to conquere seemingly anything in comfort.

Ultimately though the Range Rover is a more common sight on road these days and it’s easy to understand why when you drive it. Not only is it supremely comfortable but its elevated seating position and wide windscreen give you a commanding view of the road, so driving such a big machine becomes easy.

Interior

Plush. All of the materials used in the Vogue feel premium, from the soft-to-touch leather to the metallic finishes – even in the entry-level model the Range Rover screams luxury.

Of course, being such a big SUV there is ample space inside, and the boot, with its split tailgate, is both generous in size but also adds practical benefits, such as an ideal picnic spot if you do go off-roading (or simply down to the Polo).

The updated InControl Touch Pro Duo does add another layer of style and technology to the cabin with its very modern-looking twin-screen set-up. However, while it looks stylish and is largely intuitive to navigate the lack of haptic buttons, save for the twin dials either side of the lower screen, does make it tricky to operate at times on the move.

Safety

The Range Rover may be more than 40 years old but it has moved with the times. The Vogue comes equipped with full airbag protection, autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning.
